BASTON SCHOOL PRE-JUNIOR DEPARTMENT offers a happy and stimulating environment enabling sound training and grounding to be given by fully qualified staff and assistants. As well as three large, airy and centrally heated classrooms with adjoining cloakrooms, it has its own playing field with climbing frames, slides, bars and a sand pit.
The two/three year olds in the Kindergarten are given an informal welcome to school life where some of the basic skills are introduced and developed. The four year old girls in the reception class work a full and more structured school day. Through a carefully planned syllabus, the girls are given a sound foundation, enabling them to learn to read and write fluently and grasp a real understanding of early number work thus preparing them for a smooth and happy transition into the Junior School.
BASTON'S JUNIOR SCHOOL fulfils all National Curriculum requirements but we aim to offer far more. Whilst a high priority is given to the learning of basic English and Mathematics skills, the girls enjoy a balanced, rich curriculum that includes Science, History, Geography, Religious Knowledge, Information Technology, Drama, Art and Handwork and French. A new dyslexia unit opened in September 1997.
We encourage all girls to take advantage of the facilities and clubs available including the use of the fully equipped computer room as well as the computer in each classroom, first class sporting facilities, gym club, netball club, tennis club, drama club, cookery club, Pet Protectors' Club, knitting club, video club and Fishers' Club, a junior Christian fellowship. There is a junior choir and orchestra and all girls learn to read music and play the recorder. Pupils with musical ability are encouraged to learn the piano or have individual lessons in a second instrument. Group Speech and Drama lessons are available from Year 4 upwards.
Parents are warmly invited to come and watch their daughters participate in the various annual activities. Parents' evenings, twice yearly, and informal coffee mornings are arranged so that all aspects of the girls' education can be discussed.
Why not visit the school to see for yourself, a warm welcome is assured.
